Bulk Billing Skin Clinic
Mount Tamborine has so much to see and do. Whether you like getting in touch with nature or you have an adventurous side, Mount Tamborine has something for everyone.
With a beautiful sub-tropical climate, it’s typical that most weekends are spent in the sun, but it’s important to be sun safe no matter what the season. A beautiful sun-kissed look doesn’t have to come at the cost of your health. With more than 14,000 cases of melanoma skin cancer being diagnosed in 2018, it’s more important than to be sun-safe.
Skin cancer is an almost completely preventable disease, and sadly one of the biggest killers in Australia. Being familiar with your skin and identifying changes in their early stages can save your life.
Stay Sun Safe
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and the majority of those are caused by over-exposure to UV rays from the sun, so how do you prevent yourself from becoming another statistic?
- When in the sun try and cover up as much as possible. By wearing wide brimmed hats and long sleeve tops, you can prevent UV rays from damaging your skin.
- Always wear sun screen. Even on overcast days the UV rays are still able to penetrate your skin and lead to skin cancer. Covering yourself in SPF 30 – 50 will assist in protecting your skin from the harsh UV rays. Ensure that you apply sunscreen 20 minutes prior to going in the sun, and you reapply at least every two hours.
- The sun between 12 – 2pm daily is at its harshest, and it is advised that you stay out of direct sunlight between these hours.
- When you are out in the sunlight, try and seek shade as much as possible.
